Donate to the Manitou Messenger to help us inspire and train a new generation of student journalists.

Our Story

The Manitou Messenger, St. Olaf's student-run newspaper, needs your help!

Every year, our printing and postage costs increase and our revenue from subscriptions and print advertisements declines – the same challenge that newspapers around the country are currently facing. This trend has put us in quite a bit of debt, and we're no longer able to afford the basics for our student journalists.

Beyond serving as a voice and a news source for the St. Olaf community, the Messenger is also an invaluable resource for aspiring journalists, a place where they can learn how to source, interview, write, shoot video, edit audio, and engage readers through social media. In order to continue our reporting, we need support from readers like you.

Your contribution will help us pay for...

New AP Style manuals

A camera for our photojournalists

20 print issues, once a week for the 2017-18 school year

A membership to the Associated Collegiate Press

Contest submission and workshop registration fees

Office supplies (tape, Kleenex, white board markers, etc.)

Marketing materials (stickers, posters, and flyers to help recruit writers)

Small stipends for our editorial and executive staff

New technology (microphones, videocameras, video editing software)

If you choose to donate $75 or more, you will receive to the 2017-18 season of the Messenger, mailed directly to your chosen address. Please email mess-business@stolaf.edu with your name and address and we'll add you to our subscribers list!

Thanks for your help! If you have any questions about how we'll spend the money, how the Messenger operates, what we report on, or anything else Manitou Messenger related, email us at mess-exec@stolaf.edu

We'd love to talk with you!
